A Long-Standing Springfield Tradition
The legendary doors of Jimm’s Steakhouse and Pub have been welcoming guests for years, creating memorable meals and lasting traditions for people throughout Springfield, Missouri and beyond.
Known for outstanding service, exceptional steaks, a legendary salad bar, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Jimm’s has become a place where people come to celebrate, reconnect, relax, and enjoy a meal together. Whether it is a special occasion, a business lunch, a family dinner, date night, or simply a night out at a favorite local restaurant, our goal has always been the same: make every guest feel welcome and give them a reason to come back.
But the story of Jimm’s Steakhouse and Pub begins long before the sign above Glenstone Avenue carried our name.
2008: The End of One Chapter
In the early morning hours, James “Jimm” Swafford’s phone rang with disheartening news. After 32 years, the legendary doors of the Steak & Ale restaurant, where Jimm had served as general manager, were going to close permanently. The end came without warning.
For Jimm, the restaurant was more than just a job. It was a place where relationships had been built, memories had been made, and a team of people had worked together for years.
As many employees were left without income, Jimm busied himself helping them find new jobs, doing what he could to make sure no one was left behind. At the same time, saying goodbye to a place he had dedicated so much of himself to was not easy.
But sometimes the end of one chapter creates the opportunity for another.
2009: The Legendary Doors Reopen
One year later, the English Tudor building stood vacant along one of Springfield’s busiest streets. Life continued to move around it, but the restaurant never left Jimm’s mind.
He continued looking for a way to bring the building and its legendary doors back to life. Then one day, he got a call from the previous owner.
In November 2009, those doors reopened.
The sign high above Glenstone Avenue proudly announced a new name: Jimm’s Steakhouse and Pub.
The restaurant had a new name and a new chapter ahead, but the heart behind it remained familiar. Jimm wanted to create a place built around the things that mattered most to him: great food, genuine hospitality, exceptional service, and taking care of people.
That philosophy still guides Jimm’s today.
More Than a Restaurant, Part of the Springfield Community
Jimm’s Steakhouse and Pub is proud to call Springfield home.
For years, our restaurant has been part of the celebrations, traditions, milestones, and everyday moments that bring people together. We have welcomed guests celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, promotions, engagements, family gatherings, and countless other occasions.
We have also welcomed people who simply wanted a good meal and a familiar place to sit down.
Over time, many of our guests have become familiar faces. Some have been dining with us since the very beginning. Others are discovering Jimm’s for the first time. We are grateful for both.
Being a local restaurant means being part of the community you serve. Springfield has supported Jimm’s over the years, and we believe in giving that support back whenever we can. From supporting local organizations and charitable causes to participating in the community that has made our success possible, we believe that taking care of people should extend beyond the walls of our restaurant.
Because at the end of the day, this community is not just where we do business. It is home.

Awards and recognition are an honor, especially when they come from the people and community we serve.

We are proud to be recognized among Springfield’s favorite places for fine dining and lunch, and especially proud of the recognition our team has received for restaurant service, steaks, and salads.
But while awards are meaningful, they are never the reason we do what we do.

We want the guest celebrating an anniversary to feel like the evening matters.
We want the family gathering around the table to have a great experience together.
We want the business lunch to run smoothly.
We want the couple coming in for date night to leave already talking about when they will come back.
We want the person visiting Springfield for the first time to understand why locals have been telling them to visit Jimm’s.
That kind of reputation is not built by a sign on the wall. It is built one guest, one meal, and one experience at a time.
The Food That Became Tradition
Every restaurant has the dishes people come back for.
At Jimm’s, those traditions have been built around quality food and the kind of meals that feel worth slowing down for.
Our steaks and prime rib have become favorites for guests looking for a classic steakhouse experience. Our menu also includes seafood, chicken, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, and other dishes that give guests something to come back and try again.
And then there is the salad bar.
For many Jimm’s guests, a visit would not feel complete without it. With homemade dressings and a wide selection of fresh ingredients, our salad bar has become one of the most recognizable and talked-about traditions in the restaurant.
